About This Exhibition:
Eleven years ago, Helping Paws held DOWN TO THE BONE exhibition in the Onca Gallery in Brighton. It ran for a week and was deemed to be the most successful pop-up exhibition in 10 years raising a huge amount of money for animals in need.
The theme of DOWN TO THE BONE 2 is animals and nature and we are delighted that many of the artists who exhibited in the original exhibition are submitting work again. Overall, there will be around 55 artists exhibiting. These include Romany Mark Bruce an acclaimed local artist and sculptor who created TAY, the AIDS memorial in Brighton’s New Steine; Alan Rankle whose works are featured in museums and private collections throughout the world; Sara Reeve a local artist who was a semi-finalist on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year and many, many others. Also included will be a painting of Peter Sellers and his dog by his daughter Sarah, who is the curator of the exhibition, to mark 100 years since her father’s birth.
During the exhibition there will be events these will include a talk by TV Vet Marc Abraham OBE who is now working at Mewes Vets in Rottingdean. There will also be a talk by Raystede, a local animal welfare centre. Jake Spicer, head of Draw Brighton, is holding a workshop on drawing dogs on 4th April to coincide with the exhibition.
Helping Paws is a local animal support group helping animals and wildlife in the UK and overseas. Since it’s conception 11 years ago it has raised over £600,000. All profits from the exhibition will go to animals and wildlife in the UK and overseas
