Urgent: Help Save Rottingdean Library and Help Protect The Grange
Rottingdean’s much-loved library is under threat.
As part of proposed budget cuts from Brighton and Hove City Council between 2025 and 2027, there is a very real risk that the Rottingdean Library, based inside The Grange, may be closed.
This is more than just a blow to book lovers – it threatens the whole future of a unique and vital community hub.
Why The Grange Matters
Nestled in the heart of the village, The Grange is far more than a beautiful historic building. Originally built as a Georgian vicarage, it later became home to the celebrated artists Sir William Nicholson and Mable Pryde Nicholson, who gave it the name we know today. Now, The Grange houses:
- A very popular Art Gallery and Museum, run by Rottingdean Heritage
- The Rottingdean Library and Tourist Information Hub, managed by Brighton and Hove City Council
- The award-winning Grange Garden and seasonal Tea Gardens
The library is not just a source of books. It’s a place where parents bring their children, where older residents find company and inspiration, and where curious minds of all ages come to learn. Many who discover the library go on to explore the Gallery, visit the Museum, enjoy the Tea Garden, and fall in love with the history and character of The Grange.
