We wanted to let you know about the number of events that we are holding which are part of this major exhibition celebrating the 150th Anniversary of Sir William Nicholson’s birth.
First of all the exhibition itself. This runs from the 19th June through to the 31st of July. Wednesday – Saturday 10:00 – 16:00 and Sunday 13:00 – 16:00.
This is a ticketed event where we have 50 minute slots starting on the hour and limited to 30 tickets per slot. This gives the visitor both time and space to enjoy the event without being crowded out. Tickets are FREE and can be booked on our Eventbrite page.
The second event is a music recital by mezzo soprano Ophelia Appleby (the great, great granddaughter of Sir William Nicholson) and pianist Frasier Hickland at St Margaret’s Church on June 18th at 18:00. This event is also ticketed and available on Eventbrite and tickets cost £10.00. Do come and listen as it promises to be a truly magical and special evening.
We have also organised a guest lecture by the eminent historian and author Stephen Calloway in which he will discuss William Nicholson’s career in more detail. This will be held in the Whiteway Centre on July 9th from 18:30. Tickets are also available to book on Eventbrite and cost £15.00. Refreshments will be served.
The Castle Theatre company are back in Rottingdean on July 13th and 14th performing The Comedy of Errors in The Grange garden. Tickets are again available NOW on our Eventbrite page and cost £10.00. Please note that there will be no refunds offered for this event,

Finally we are pleased to invite all members and volunteers to a special members only private view of A was an Artist on Friday 24th June from 18:00. At this event the author ,David Bomford, the curator of this amazing exhibition, will discuss more about Sir William Nicholson and the context of A was an Artist and you will be able to ask questions and discuss the art and ephemera that David has helped us put together.

Numbers are strictly limited for this event so if you wish to attend PLEASE RSVP to Barry Wright at rhmemsec@gmail.com as soon as you can to secure your place.

Finally, we wanted to share with you a picture that was taken by Cordelia Bourne from ,Patrick Bourne and Co who have kindly loaned us two paintings from their collection for the exhibition and contacted us via ,our Instagram account. Sir William Nicholson’s painting Miss Simpsons Boots was sold in March 2022 by ,Christies for £1.78m and whilst we don’t have that particular painting in the exhibition: we do have the boots!

That’s all for now. As you can see there is lot’s going on, so thanks for reading this blog all the way to the end and we look forward to seeing you at one (or all) of these wonderful events.

Until the next time…
